New Milford Sends Library Project to Finance Board

The total estimated cost for the renovation is $8.5 million.

NEW MILFORD, CT — The Town Council has approved sending a supplemental appropriation request for up to $6.5 million to the finance board to expand and renovate the library, The News Times is reporting.

The town will also be requesting $1 million for the project as part of a state public library construction grant application.

The total estimated cost for the renovation is $8.5 million. The library’s board of trustees has already committed $1 million for the project. Officials hope to earmark another $1 million from the Waste Management Fund for the project. Residents will still have to approve funding for the project before it can advance.

The council has already approved the design of the revamp, which would see the library expand from 15,000 to 22,000 square feet, add more meeting space, and remodel the facade to better fit in with the current downtown architecture. The library will also be made compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
