Obituary: Theodore Haviland Howes, Jr., 68, of New Milford

As a teen, Ted became a total Beatle maniac and with a friend, stowed away on a ship bound for England.

NEW MILFORD, CT -- Born on July 30, 1949, Theodore Haviland Howes, Jr. (except for a few excursions) lived the majority of his life in Danbury before moving to New Milford in 2003.

An enterprising child, Ted early manifested the iron-willed, stalwart, brave, stubborn, independent spirit that was him. He was adventuresome. He loved to investigate and explore. Like his mom before him, he was enamored of nature. As a teen, Ted became a total Beatle maniac and with a friend, stowed away on a ship bound for England. Soon back in the U.S.A., he decided to look for beetles of a different kind, one time capturing and bringing home a flying insect with a twelve inch tail. The concept of flying suddenly intrigued him and he soon had a pilot's license. Music had always been an integral part of Ted's life. His dad had early taught him to play the drums and he taught himself to play the guitar. He joined the band, "Peppermint Twist." Ted attended W.C.S.U. and earned a B.S. in Earth Science. He became a propane technician and worked for the Leahy and Mitchell Oil companies.

Ted fought his last fight sometime during the last week of May or first week of June. His body was found in his home on Sunday, June 5, 2016. Ted is survived by his sister, Judith Howes, and his brother, William Howes, both of Danbury, two aunts, Ruth Prescott Stolle of Bethel, and Carolyn Grant Howes of New York, and by his cousins living in America, Australia, and Ireland.
