New Milford Observatory to Focus on Mars in New Program

It is the first outer space robotic explorer to study in-depth the crust, mantle and core of Mars.

NEW MILFORD, CT —The John J. McCarthy Observatory in New Milford will present "Insight: NASA's Next Mission ot Mars" as part of its “Second Saturday Stars” program, on Dec. 8 from 7 to 9 p.m.

InSight, short for Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport, is a Mars lsnder designed to give the Red Planet its first thorough checkup since it formed 4.5 billion years ago. The craft landed on the red planet on Nov. 26.

It is the first outer space robotic explorer to study in-depth the crust, mantle and core of Mars.

The evening's program will showcase NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California with NASA InSight Engineer and New Milford resident Kyle Cloutier.
