Solar Panel Project Moves Forward in New Milford

The Town Council approved the plan Monday night.

NEW MILFORD, CT — A plan to construct a 20-watt solar panel farm on Candlewood Mountain in New Milford will move forward, following a close vote Monday night by the Town Council.

Mayor David Gronbach voted in the favor of the proposal, breaking the 4-4 tie, a rare occurrence for the mayor to do so, reports The News Times.

Under the arrangement, the town is slated to receive nearly $3 million in payment in lieu of taxes over 20 years, an amount greater than the taxes the property was generating.
