Video: Bobcat Spotted In New Milford

NEW MILFORD, CT — A bobcat was seen crossing through a yard in the Gaylordsville section of town Monday.

The cat, as seen on the Neighbors app, can be identified by its signature bobbed tail. It appears in the video between the 3 second and 15 second mark.

Bobcats are the only wild cat found in Connecticut. Adult males are typically between 32 and 37 inches in length and weigh between 18 and 35 pounds. Females typically max out around 32 inches and 30 pounds.

They rarely conflict with humans, but occasionally kill livestock and get into fights with domestic cats, according to the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. Generally they will be deterred by fencing and other preventative measures.

Bobcats are most active just after dusk and right before dawn. Their diet mostly consists of small woodland animals such as squirrels and chipmunks and they are capable of taking down deer that are either very sick, heavily injured, old or young.
