What Are The Odds? Two Local Men Win Huge in Lottery

One of the men even one twice in the same day!

NEW MILFORD, CT -- A New Milford man is $30,000 richer, and a Torrington man scored $100,000 twice, in recent Connecticut lottery drawings.

On July 6, Jonathan Baisley of New Milford, purchased a winning lottery ticket from Xpress Fuel in the same town. Baisley played 30X Cash 5th Edition, in which he won $30,000.

John Smedick, Jr., in nearby Torrington, was even luckier. He bought two winning Cash5 tickets on June 29 -- by mistake.

“It turns out I played it, forgot I played it, and played it again,” Smedick told Lottery officials. “My daughter went to the lottery's website and saw there were two $100,000 winning Cash5 tickets. Both of them were mine — I won $200,000. It was the best mistake I ever made.”

Smedick purchased his Cash5 winning tickets at two different Torrington locations: H & H Mart on 322 E. Main St. and North Main Shell on 857 N. Main St.
