Woman, Teen Driver Charged In New Milford Fatal Hit-And-Run

A New Milford woman and a teen have been charged in connection with a crash that killed a pedestrian last year, according to reports.

NEW MILFORD — Two people have been charged in connection to a fatal hit-and-run crash in New Milford last year, according to News 12 Connecticut. The accident led to the death of Galo Rafael Guaman, 61, of Danbury.

Guaman was struck as he crossed Route 7 near Old State Road at 5:10 p.m. on Nov. 8. He died at the scene of the crash. The car never stopped but left pieces behind, News 12 Connecticut reported.

An unlicensed 17-year-old driver and Gorete Pereira, 44, of New Milford, have been charged in the accident. Pereira was a passenger instructing the driver.

Investigators collected car parts at the scene of the crash and contacted a Ford dealership for identification, The News-Times reported. The dealership told police the car parts belonged to a black Ford Fusion within a specific date range. Investigators then found the registered owner of the car, which led them to Pereira.

Pereira was charged with criminal liability for acts of another/evading responsibility and several motor vehicle violations, according to The News-Times.
