2011-12 School Calendar Set

Board of Education approves school calendar, revising early release days.

The Board of Education has voted to revise the early-release-day schedule in the 2011-12 school calendar, finalizing the calendar for the coming year.

Early release days, which allow teachers to participate in professional learning communities, has been reduced from eight to six. They will be Oct. 7, Dec. 2, Jan. 6, Feb. 17, April 5 and May 25.

Proposed early release days in March and June were eliminated. In the case of March, the decision was made due to the scheduling of parent-teacher conferences that month, which already require early dismissal. In the case of June, officials questioned the value of holding an early release day in June.
