Tesla Goes Airborne, Slams Into Tree In Newtown Crash: Police (patch.com) — Newtown police are investigating a serious crash in which a speeding Tesla went airborne, hit rocks and a utility wire, and finally slammed into a tree on Taunton Hill Road. The 32-year-old driver was extricated by emergency crews and taken to Danbury Hospital, while authorities ask any witnesses in town to come forward with information.
2. Power Outage Knocks Out Traffic Lights Across Newtown: Police (patch.com) — Newtown drivers are being urged to use extra caution as a widespread power outage has knocked out traffic lights at multiple intersections across town. Police and Public Works crews are deploying temporary stop signs, and motorists are reminded to treat any dark signal as a stop sign until power is restored.
3. Outdoor Basketball Court Approved At Fairfield Hills In Newtown (patch.com) — Newtown residents can look forward to a new outdoor basketball court at the Fairfield Hills campus, approved by the Planning and Zoning Commission earlier this month. Located next to the Newtown Community Center playground, the court will support childcare programs while remaining open to the public during off-hours, with added parking already in place to handle increased use.
4. Music Festival With 10 Bands, Food Trucks Set For Newtown (patch.com) — Newtown’s Fairfield Hills campus will host a full-day music festival next month, bringing 10 bands, food trucks and a beer garden to town. With national, regional and Connecticut acts on two stages, the event offers residents a full day of live entertainment supported by Kevin’s Community Center and local sponsors.
5. Driver Hits Utility Pole In Newtown, Charged With DUI: Police (patch.com) — Newtown police say a Danbury man was charged with DUI after his car crossed the centerline on Mount Pleasant Road and hit a utility pole near Reservoir Road early Saturday morning. The crash caused significant front-end damage but no injuries, and the vehicle was towed. The driver was released on bond and is due in Danbury Superior Court later this month.
