The arrest comes days after Newtown police issued a Silver Alert for 17-month-old Blue McGrath, who authorities said had been kept from her mother in violation of a temporary child custody order.

Authorities announced Friday that the child had been safely returned to her mother and the Silver Alert had been canceled.

McGrath was charged with first-degree custodial interference and interfering with police, according to authorities. Police said he was processed and later released after posting a $500,000 surety bond. He is scheduled to appear May 11 in Danbury Superior Court.

Police previously said Brennan McGrath had been “uncooperative with police, DCF, and child custody orders from the court” during the investigation.

Police said investigators worked with local, state and federal law enforcement partners throughout the search and thanked community members who submitted tips and monitored for possible sightings.
