NEWTOWN, CT — A new retail plaza has been approved along the busy Route 6 corridor in Newtown near the Bethel town line, according to town records.
During a May 7 meeting, the town’s Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously approved an application for a 4,400-square-foot retail building at 149 Mount Pleasant Road.
Plans for the project include driveway access and egress, parking, landscaping and other site improvements on the property, according to documents submitted to the town. The wooded site is located near existing commercial businesses along the Route 6 and Stony Hill Road corridor approaching the Bethel border.
Town records identify the proposal as “Nejame Development.”
According to a report by The News-Times, the project is tied to Danbury-based Nejame & Sons, a longtime family-run company that has expanded into commercial development.
No future tenants for the retail plaza were identified in the application materials reviewed by the commission.
Following a public hearing, commissioners voted unanimously to approve the application, finding it consistent with Newtown zoning regulations, according to meeting minutes. The approval is scheduled to become effective May 30.
