Employee At Newtown Liquor Store Accused Of Selling Alcohol To Underage Customer: Police

Police said officers found a 20-year-old leaving the business with alcohol after investigating a complaint.

NEWTOWN, CT — An employee at Oak Barrel Wine & Spirits in Newtown is accused of selling alcohol to an underage customer, according to Newtown police.

Police said officers received a complaint May 4 accusing the business, located at 75 Church Hill Road, of selling alcohol to minors.

Officers checked the area and saw a young man who “did not appear to be 21 yrs of age” at the register, according to a report.

Police said the man later exited the store carrying a bag containing alcohol. Officers determined the customer was 20 years old.

A sales clerk was issued a misdemeanor summons on a charge of illegal sale or delivery of liquor to a minor and released on a promise to appear, police said.

The clerk was scheduled to appear May 14 in Danbury Superior Court, according to the report.
