Officers observed the transaction, confirmed the buyer’s age, and issued the employee a misdemeanor summons for illegal sale of liquor to a minor, with a court appearance scheduled in Danbury.
2. New Retail Plaza Approved Along Route 6 In Newtown (patch.com) — A new 4,400-square-foot retail plaza has been approved for 149 Mount Pleasant Road along Route 6 in Newtown, near the Bethel line, with the decision taking effect May 30. The project, tied to Danbury-based Nejame & Sons, includes new parking, driveway access, and landscaping, though no tenants have been named yet. Neighbors can expect another commercial addition to this already busy corridor.
3. Newtown Approves School Bus Cameras: What To Know (patch.com) — Newtown has approved a townwide school bus camera program that will put AI-equipped stop-arm cameras on all 56 school buses, with enforcement expected to begin before the 2026–27 school year. Drivers who illegally pass stopped buses will face at least a $250 civil penalty, after violations are reviewed. Officials say the move targets frequent violations on roads like Toddy Hill and Berkshire.
4. Best Connecticut high schools for athletes? According to one study, these are top 25 (usatoday.com) — Connecticut’s latest ranking of top high schools for athletes puts Newtown High School (Sandy Hook) at No. 16 statewide, with 29 sports offered. The list, based on Niche survey data and federal statistics, highlights how competitive Newtown’s athletic program is compared with larger, better-known schools across the state.
