NEWTOWN, CT — Michelle Embree Ku defeated Brandon Moore in Tuesday’s Democratic caucus for the 106th District state representative race in Newtown.
According to results released by local Democrats, Embree Ku received 240 votes while Moore received 220 votes. Officials said the votes were counted twice to ensure accuracy.
The 106th District lies entirely within Newtown. The Democratic nominee is expected to face incumbent Republican state Rep. Mitch Bolinsky in the November election.
The race drew local attention after both candidates launched campaigns earlier this year.
Embree Ku previously served on Newtown’s Legislative Council, Board of Selectmen and Board of Education, where she served as chair. Moore, a military veteran, previously worked in Gov. Ned Lamont’s administration on workforce policy initiatives.
