• Sandy Hook LobsterFest Returns Next Week In Newtown (patch.com) — Newtown residents can look forward to the return of Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue’s popular LobsterFest on June 6, featuring lobster, steak, hamburger, and hot dog dinners. Advance lobster and steak tickets cost $40 through noon on June 5, then rise to $45, and can be purchased from fire company members, The Newtown Bee office, or the Fire Marshal’s office at the Newtown Municipal Center.
• Newtown school board seeks to 'minimize' classroom impact after voters reduce 2026-27 budget (thehour.com) — Newtown voters have approved a 2026-27 school budget that’s more than $500,000 below what the district requested, forcing the Board of Education to decide what to trim at its June 2 meeting. Positions like a new Newtown Middle School dean of students and added elementary and special education staff are now uncertain as officials work to protect classroom learning.
• Connecticut actress earns first Tony nomination as ‘Chess' nears closing (newstimes.com) — A Newtown native is in the Broadway spotlight as actress Hannah Cruz, a 2010 Newtown High School graduate, earns her first Tony nomination for “Chess,” which closes June 21. Cruz fondly recalls growing up in Newtown before building a rising stage and screen career that now includes this major recognition.
