NEWTOWN, CT — A customer is accused of threatening a Caraluzzi's Market employee with a knife during an incident at the store's deli counter, according to police.
Officers responded to Caraluzzi's Market on Queen Street around 7:10 p.m. Saturday for a report of a threatening incident involving a knife.
Police said the customer allegedly threatened a store employee while in the deli area and displayed a bread knife obtained from the deli counter. The individual reportedly made threatening statements before leaving the store prior to officers' arrival.
Through interviews, surveillance footage, store records and other investigative steps, officers identified a 64-year-old Newtown man as the suspect, according to police.
Police later located the man at his residence and took him into custody without incident. He was charged with second-degree threatening and released on a $1,000 non-surety bond. He is scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court on June 18, police said.
