Driver Accused Of DUI After Utility Pole Crash In Newtown: Police

Police said the driver allegedly fled after striking a utility pole.

NEWTOWN, CT — A driver was arrested on DUI and evading responsibility charges after police said he crashed into a utility pole and left the scene in Newtown Saturday night.

Officers were dispatched shortly before midnight June 13 to a reported single-vehicle crash near Castle Hill Road and Great Hill Road.

Police said they found a utility pole heavily damaged and suspended by utility wires, but the vehicle involved had fled the scene. The vehicle was later located a short distance away and stopped by officers.

Police identified the driver as a 35 year-old Newtown man. He was charged with operating under the influence, evading responsibility involving property damage and failure to drive in the proper lane.

He was released on a written promise to appear and is scheduled to appear June 23 in Danbury Superior Court.
