Road Closed After Serious Crash Sends Vehicle Down Embankment In Newtown

Police, firefighters and EMS crews responded to the crash and are asking witnesses to come forward.

NEWTOWN, CT — Police are responding to a serious one-car crash that sent a vehicle down an embankment in Newtown Tuesday afternoon.

The Newtown Police Department said Mt. Pleasant Hill Road is closed in the area of Saw Mill Road while police, firefighters and EMS crews work at the scene.

Police later expanded the road closure, announcing that Route 25/Route 6 (Mt. Pleasant Road) is closed between Hawleyville Road and Saw Mill Road until further notice as crews continue working at the scene.

Authorities described the crash as serious and urged motorists to use alternate routes.

Police are also asking anyone who witnessed the crash to contact the department.

Additional information, including the extent of any injuries, was not immediately available.
