Responding officers located the vehicle approximately 40 feet down a steep embankment off the westbound side of Mount Pleasant Road, police said. Newtown firefighters and ambulance personnel also responded to the scene.

Officers and firefighters descended the embankment to reach the vehicle and extricated the sole occupant, who sustained severe injuries in the crash. First responders began lifesaving measures alongside Newtown Ambulance and Regional Paramedics before the driver was transported to Danbury Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, according to police.

Police identified the driver as Richard J. Aronson of Danbury.

The crash remains under investigation by the Newtown Police Accident Reconstruction Team and the department’s Detective Bureau. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact Officer Barry Hyvarinen at the Newtown Police Department.
