Lane Closures Coming To Route 34 In Newtown For Months-Long Project

NEWTOWN, CT — Motorists who travel Route 34 in Newtown should prepare for delays as a months-long construction project is set to begin next week.

The Connecticut Department of Transportation announced slope repair and stabilization work will begin Monday, Aug. 3 and is expected to continue through Saturday, Oct. 31.

During construction, a lane closure will be in effect on Route 34 between Jordan Hill Road and Great Quarter Road. A temporary traffic signal will direct alternating one-way traffic through the work zone.

According to CTDOT, the project includes installation of temporary precast concrete barriers, steel sheet piles, stone riprap and pavement line striping.

Motorists are advised to slow down and use caution while traveling through the area.

CTDOT noted the project schedule could change because of weather or other unforeseen conditions.
