Residents are invited to contribute a variety of items during an upcoming community collection.

NEWTOWN, CT — A community food drive benefiting Newtown and Sandy Hook residents in need will be held Monday, Aug. 17, at Big Y in Newtown.

State Reps. Mitch Bolinsky, R-Newtown, and Martin Foncello, R-Brookfield, are partnering with FAITH Food Pantry of Newtown for the drive, which will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Big Y World Class Market, 6 Queen St.

The lawmakers will be on site collecting nonperishable food, personal care items, paper goods, diapers, pet food and pet care items. Gift cards will also be accepted.

FAITH, which stands for "Food Assistance, Immediate, Temporary Help," is an all-volunteer nonprofit that provides free and confidential food assistance to Newtown and Sandy Hook residents.

"Even a single donation can make a meaningful difference for a neighbor in need," Bolinsky said. "The need is great, and it's my hope to welcome and thank those who help stock FAITH'S shelves and fulfill its mission to serve our neighbors, close to home."

Those interested in donating directly to the pantry, seeking assistance or volunteering can find more information through FAITH Food Pantry of Newtown.
