NEWTOWN, CT — Edmond Town Hall carries most of the weekend's entertainment load in Newtown, with something different happening on its stage and screen each day from Friday through Sunday. Round it out with a hands-on trip back to a one-room schoolhouse, and there's a full weekend on tap without leaving downtown.
- Country LIVE! — Friday, 7:30 to 10 p.m. A tribute concert covering Kenny Chesney, Shania Twain, Keith Urban and Luke Bryan, built around live musicianship rather than a lip-synced revue. Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main St.
- "Revolution! America 250 on the Big Screen" — Saturday, 2 to 8:30 p.m. A free double feature marking Newtown's 250th anniversary: the 1972 musical "1776" at 2 p.m. and the 2000 war drama "The Patriot" at 6 p.m., with admission free for both. Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main St.
- Pete the Cat — Sunday, 2 to 3:30 p.m., doors at 1 p.m. A touring musical following the groovy blue cat as he teaches an uptight second grader about friendship and adventure, recommended for ages 4-9. Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main St.
- Little Red School House Open House — Sunday, noon to 3 p.m. The Newtown Historical Society's Miss Melissa leads a 19th-century lesson at the historic one-room schoolhouse, followed by period games and refreshments. Free, donations welcome. Newtown Historical Society, 7 Cold Spring Road.
