NEWTOWN, CT — A Milford man faces DUI, drug and other charges after police said he crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a tractor-trailer on South Main Street Thursday morning, shutting down Route 25.
The 32-year-old man was driving northbound near Simm Lane around 9:58 a.m. when he crossed into the southbound lane and collided with the truck, according to a Newtown Police Department report. Both vehicles sustained disabling damage. The truck driver was not injured.
He fled on foot before officers arrived, police said. Officers located him near Dogwood Terrace and took him into custody after a brief foot pursuit.
Police said they found suspected illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia, including a substance that tested positive for methamphetamine, according to police. He was taken to Danbury Hospital for injuries sustained in the crash.
The man was arrested on charges of operating under the influence of alcohol or drugs, evading responsibility involving injury or property damage, possession of a controlled substance, use of drug paraphernalia and interfering with an officer or resisting arrest.
He also faces charges of operating an unregistered vehicle, operating without minimum insurance and improper use of a marker, license or registration.
Police said the man was held on a $15,000 bond. He was scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court on Friday, Sept. 25.
