NEWTOWN, CT — PopUp Bagels will close its Newtown location this weekend after the Connecticut-born company said it has outgrown the space amid its nationwide expansion.
Sunday, Oct. 4, will be the final day for PopUp Bagels at 266 South Main St., according to a Sept. 28 announcement from the company. The location has served as both a retail shop and commissary during a period in which PopUp grew from three shops to more than 50 across the country.
The company said its production needs have increased alongside that growth, leading PopUp to expand its production footprint elsewhere.
"This little space played a huge role in getting PopUp to where we are today," founder Adam Goldberg said in the announcement. "It helped us grow from three shops to more than 50, and we'll always be grateful to Newtown and the people who supported us here along the way."
The space won't stay vacant. Fatto a Mano, a Westport-based artisanal Italian bakery founded by Pierluigi Mazzella, will take over the Newtown location.
Fatto a Mano specializes in naturally leavened sourdough breads, focaccia, panettone and pastries. PopUp said additional details about the bakery's plans for the Newtown location will be announced later.
"As we've grown, our production needs have grown with us, and it feels special to hand the keys to friends who are ready for their own next chapter," Goldberg said.
PopUp Bagels will hold its final weekend in Newtown on Saturday, Oct. 3, and Sunday, Oct. 4.
After the Newtown location closes, Fairfield will be the closest PopUp Bagels shop. The company said additional Connecticut locations are planned over the next year.
