• Newtown Receives State Grant For Rail Trail Extension Project (patch.com) — Newtown residents can look forward to an extended Housatonic Rail Trail, thanks to a new $170,000 state grant awarded through Connecticut's Recreational Trails Grant Program. The funding, part of a $10.5 million statewide package, will support construction work that improves local access to outdoor recreation, connects communities, and contributes to the town's share of the state's growing outdoor economy.
• Good Luck Charm(s) And Solid Play Boost Hawk Booters En Route To First Victory (newtownbee.com) — Newtown High School's boys' soccer team finally secured its first win of the season, a 3–0 home victory over Brookfield that also honored longtime local coach and Newtown Pride FC founder Michael Svanda. Players and coaches credit both Svanda's tactical advice and the team's relaxed, family-like chemistry for the breakthrough performance and hope it sparks a stronger run ahead.
• Sandy Hook School Shootings Fast Facts (kq2.com) — Residents are given a clear, chronological overview of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings in Newtown, from the events of December 14, 2012 through investigations, lawsuits, and the creation of the permanent memorial. The fact sheet also notes milestones like survivors' 2024 Newtown High School graduation and major court rulings, helping contextualize how the tragedy continues to shape the community and nation.
