NEWTOWN, CT — A Newtown elementary school is among the 25 best public elementary schools in Connecticut, according to new rankings released Tuesday by U.S. News & World Report.
Head O'Meadow Elementary School ranked No. 23 statewide in the publication's 2027 Best Elementary Schools rankings.
The school, part of the Newtown School District, serves 327 students in kindergarten through fourth grade, according to U.S. News. Its student-teacher ratio is 11:1.
Riverside School in Greenwich ranked first in Connecticut, followed by Veterans Park Elementary School in Ridgefield and Bugbee School in West Hartford.
The 2027 rankings evaluated approximately 46,000 public elementary schools nationwide, using reading and mathematics achievement data from state education agencies and the U.S. Department of Education.
This year's methodology includes expanded state-level data covering student performance across all proficiency levels, while accounting for student background and achievement on state assessments.
Schools with a broader grade range were evaluated using test results through fifth grade.
