NewArts: Newtown Musicals 2016 Audition FormNewArts (a division of The 12.14 Foundation) is proud to announce its summer season for 2016!
We have selected two terrific musicals - one of the first amateur productions of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “SCHOOL OF ROCK” (with book by Julian Fellows of “Downton Abbey” fame) - which is currently playing on Broadway (choreographed by our own JoAnn M Hunter who choreographed “Liberty Smith) - and the iconic favorite “THE WIZARD OF OZ”.
IMPORTANT NOTES: Because of renovations this summer, we will not be rehearsing/performing at Newtown High School like in previous years. There will also be a fee to participate in the 2016 summer programs. For those with economic hardship, other opportunities to raise money for the 12.14 Foundation non-profit organization will be provided. More information will be given at the auditions. There is no fee for auditioning.
The vision of NewArts and the 12.14 Foundation is to build a multidisciplinary, education and creativity center in Newtown, CT. Our programs focus on character development thorough challenging experiences in the performing arts. AGE RESTRICTIONS
SCHOOL OF ROCK IS RESTRICTED TO PERFORMERS AND MUSICIANS AGED 18 AND YOUNGER. - Performers between the ages of 10 and 18 may audition for both shows. - Performers between the ages of 5 and 20 may audition for THE WIZARD OF OZ. - Performers between the ages of 5 and 13 may audition for the Oz Chorus. - We will most likely NOT be double-casting this year and we will probably NOT cast people in both shows. Previous musical experience is not required to be the Oz Chorus.
AUDITION DATES & LOCATIONS
- February 27, 28, March 5, 6. SATURDAYS - WALNUT HILL COMMUNITY CHURCH (156 Walnut Hill Rd. Bethel, CT). SUNDAYS - GRACEFUL PLANET (7 Berkshire Road Sandy Hook, CT). Please make note of where your audition will be based on the day of your audition. - Use the form below to select an audition date and time. We will be seeing 6 or 7 people per half-hour. Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your (or your child’s) audition time. IMPORTANT NOTE: If you do NOT hear from us, your audition IS CONFIRMED. IF YOU DO NOT SIGN UP FOR AN AUDITION HERE WE CANNOT GUARANTEE THAT WE WILL HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO SEE YOU.
WHAT TO BRING TO YOUR AUDITION
- A close-up photograph of yourself no larger than 4x6 (head and shoulders - class photo is acceptable). - Prepare a SHORT PIECE OF ANY SONG you enjoy singing (no more than one minute) as well as a COMIC SPEECH from a play, book, or movie (also no longer than one minute). If you are interested in “SCHOOL OF ROCK” - a rock song is preferred - but one with a story. Bring sheet music to the audition - we will provide an accompanist. Remember, no longer than ONE MINUTE on either song or monologue, please. The reading does not have to be memorized. If younger children do not feel comfortable reading, they can recite a poem, nursery rhyme or tell us a joke. - “SCHOOL OF ROCK” only - If you play piano, guitar, bass or drums, BE PREPARED TO PLAY A ROCK SONG in addition to your singing and acting audition. BRING YOUR GUITAR (AMPLIFIER, DRUMS AND KEYBOARD PROVIDED).
CALL BACKS
April 2 and 3. MANY PEOPLE WILL BE CAST WITHOUT A CALLBACK - BUT EVERYONE WILL HEAR FROM US either way by the end of April.
REHEARSAL SCHEDULE
- “SCHOOL OF ROCK” - Starts around JUNE 20th. - “THE WIZARD OF OZ” Starts around JUNE 27th. - MONDAYS through SATURDAYS. Predominately during the day (normal school hours). - Most performers will not be called full days and most will not be required to attend all rehearsals until the week prior to the performances (Tech Week). As per usual, we do our best to accommodate scheduled conflicts. - Some of the performers involved in The WIZARD OF OZ chorus will only need to be at rehearsals for the last two weeks. Starting July 27th - plus a couple of rehearsals and a costume fitting before that.
