Big Buddha Cigar Lounge in Newtown has reached its two year anniversary this Spring. It has become an oasis for the cigar lovers all around the area. With members coming from as far as Westchester and lower Fairfield county, the "club" concept has certainly found its fans. Owner Bryan Roth says that they are getting close to their goal of 100 members and that "word-of-mouth" and referrals helped build that part of their business from the start. Memberships start at as little as $35 month and include many perks such as a free cigar every month, access to the membership lounge, discounts in the store, BYOB privileges, and special events. After touring the membership area and their expansive yard and deck, it's easy to see why the ample space is a draw to cigar smokers who are often looking for a place they are welcome. Mr. Roth claims, "If there is one thing I'd like to convey to the cigar smoking public, it's that Big Buddha is so much more than just a lounge! We are a cigar store with over 400 different cigar choices at competitive prices and we are open to the public seven day a week." They have a separate room for non-members who purchase a cigar. It is equipped with couches, flat screen TV, music, and free WiFi. So while there are certainly perks to being a "member", BBCL offers a very comfortable space for everyone. The (scenic) yard which has picnic tables, horseshoe pits, and a firepit, is also open to the public. "A few too many people asked me what exactly is the story over there at Buddha", Roth says, "So we changed our road sign to OPEN TO THE PUBLIC to make it clear that we can simply be your local cigar store with lots of choices whether its cigars, accessories, or just needing help to put together a special gift for someone". BBCL also hosts special events both on and off premises. About once a month, a cigar manufacturer will come to the store and discuss their different blends and offer free cigars to those who make a purchase. Other events include an upcoming golf outing at Whitney Farms and a new partnership with Crowne Plaza in Danbury where they will be hosting a cigar dinner periodically. In addition, they have charity poker tournaments on a monthly basis to benefit Sandy Hook Promise. Roth states, "We try to give back to our community through fundraisers and donations as much as we can as a small business. Our niche isn't for everyone but we have been well supported by Newtown and we will continue to do our best to return the favor. Thank you for your patronage " If you're interested in learning more about Big Buddha Cigar Lounge or wish to join their email list, visit BigBuddhaCigar.com or come by the store.
