Children's Day at the Little Red School House

Take a step back in time with us at the Little Red School House

Are you required to bring firewood to school?  Is your teacher required to clean the chimney each day?  No?!  Well, come visit a time when that is exactly what was expected.  The Little Red School House will be open this Sunday.  Please join us....and don't forget the firewood!

The Newtown Historical Society will host an Annual Children’s Day at the Little Red School House on the grounds of Middle Gate School (7 Cold Spring Rd, Newtown) Sunday, September 30, 2012 from noon till 2:00pm.

Costumed Docents will conduct “class” inside the school house for children 5 to 10 years old and recess activities will take place outside.  Docents will teach and organize colonial games, such as Graces, Trundling a Hoop, Sack Races, and Tug of War.

Class will begin promptly at 12:30pm with a hornbook craft.  In the event of rain, class will still be held, but outside events will be cancelled.  Admission is free, but donations are welcomed and appreciated.  Your donation allows us to continue offering programs such as this.
