The SHACK Welcomes Spring with Earth Day, Art Show & Spring Fling
Last weekend the weather was warm, the flowers were in bloom and the SHACK welcomed over 400 visitors at their tent at the Sandy Hook Spring Fling and many more at Newtown Earth Day.
Teens from the Newtown High School Creative Cultural Arts Council made over 250 snow cones at the SHACK, while across town dozens waited in line to get their faces painted at Newtown Earth Day. Miss Emma, one of SHACK's teachers, worked with Miss Deb, a Board member, to create a Tree of Hope made of 100% recycled materials.

The Newtown Strong Therapy Dogs were decked out for the occasion giving hugs and posing for photos in their spring sunflower bonnets. Newtown Strong Therapy Dogs are a locally-based therapy dog group run by Sandy Hook volunteers who professionally train through Bright and Beautiful.
Children enjoyed decorating over 100 quilts that were donated by quilters from across the country to bring comfort to Sandy Hook and Newtown children.

On Sunday, April 28th the SHACK was filled with art and music for the "Visions of Tomorrow" art show and auction. The art show was a benefit for the SHACK presented by Bear Givers Inc., an international charity that produces art shows for children with illness and special needs through their "Empower Arts" program. All children in attendance received a free teddy bear to take home, donated by Bear Givers.
Musicians Guy Tino, Alison Kellogg, Michel Rae Driscoll, Jeff Duggan all donated their time as did Fedora Loco, a Danbury-based barbershop quartet. Radio 104.1 donated live air time and broadcastlive at the 4-hour event.
Gwen Welfeld was the happy recipient of Route 7 Music's guitar raffle.
The SHACK would like to thank all of our tireless volunteers for the hundreds of hours given of yoru time to put smiled on the faces of children in our wonderful community.
