Annual Newtown Community Running Event Brings Runners and Walkers Together for the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Association in honor of Greg Ritzinger on August 30, 2026.
Newtown, Connecticut, March 23, 2026 – Runners, walkers and fitness enthusiasts are gearing up for the 1st Annual Newtown Community Running Event, taking pace on Sunday, August 30, 2026 at Fairfield Hills.&nbsp; Hosted by Newtown Road Runners, this event will host Newtown’s first ever half marathon and the net proceeds go to Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Association in honor of Greg Ritzinger, recognizing his service and dedication to the community.&nbsp; Greg was an EMT and one of the original members of the Newtown Road Runners group.
Participants can choose from Half Marathon, 10K, 5K and a Free Kid’s Run.&nbsp; The event will also feature local vendors making it a full day of celebration for the community.
“We are thrilled to bring a half marathon to Newtown for a great cause”, said Bruce Goulart, Race Director.
Organizers are seeking business, organizations and individuals to partner as event sponsors.&nbsp; Sponsorship opportunities may include logo placement on race shirts, website and recognition in event promotions.
Volunteers are also needed for various help prior to and on the day of the event.&nbsp; If you are interested in sponsoring and/or volunteering, please call Bruce Goulart at (203) 482-2529.
Registration is open now at runsignup.com.&nbsp; The cost to participate are as follows: Half Marathan Runners/Walkers $75; 10K Runners/Walkers $55, 5K Runners/Walkers $35 and Free Kid’s Run.

Step away from screens and into the great outdoors for an old-fashioned Family Camp! Experience a joyful afternoon of classic camp fun, hands-on discovery, and nature exploration designed for all ages.
During our 5 Senses Adventure, families will take a guided walk through the sanctuary using sight, sound, touch, smell, and even a little imagination to discover the hidden wonders of local plants and wildlife. Whether you’re three or ninety-three, there’s always something new to notice in nature.
At our collaborative craft station, Build It Forward, families will work side-by-side to create real wildlife habitat projects like bluebird boxes and bee hotels – important creations that can help support animals right in your own backyard.
Then head over to The Backyard Lab, where curiosity takes center stage through hands-on science experiments exploring the chemistry and physics hidden within everyday materials. Designed to spark wonder and playful learning, these activities encourage families to ask questions and test ideas together.
