Still life painting Workshop with Sarena Johnson

On Saturday, September 19, 2026, 10 :15 am – 3:30 pm (with a short lunch break), SCAN is having a Workshop  – Still life painting with Sarena Johnson.  This event will be held at Art & Frame, 77 Main St, Newtown, CT.  Prior registration with fee, required.  Members:  $75.00, Non-members:  $100.00

In this workshop, we will be learning the basics of the still life such as 

-Setting up a composition and developing an understanding of general design

-Lighting 

-Making an under painting 

-Applying wet onto wet, paint and fully rendering a portrait 

We will work in a limited palette and learn about accurate color mixing and the nuance of temperature. Each participant will leave with a complete portrait.

Materials needed

-oil paint set

-brushes multiple sizes from small to 1.5”

-linseed or poppy oil

-solvent

-canvas around the size 10x12” that is the same proportions as your photo reference

Bring your supplies and a lunch.
