Developer Suing Newtown Drops Law Firm

It was the same law firm the town used to represent the Board of Education

NEWTOWN, CT — What is the best course of action when the law firm that represents your town's school board is also the law firm representing a developer that is suing your town?

That unlikely scenario is what the people and leaders of Newtown have been wrestling with for the past two months. They have been pondering the dilemma of paying Hartford-based Shipman & Goodwin $250,000 to represent the BOE while simultaneously spending money to defend against a lawsuit the firm has brought against them.

The News Times is now reporting that all that is behind the town now, as the firm dropped the case they had brought against it. They had been representing a developer that sued Newtown’s Water and Sewer Authority in August. The suit was over a decision to limit the development of 175 apartments on Church Hill Road.
