Dr. Chris Potanas Promoted at Newtown Veterinary Specialists
Newtown Veterinary Specialists (NVS) has promoted Christopher Potanas, DVM, to the new position of Chief Surgical Resident.

NVS has recognized Dr. Christopher Potanas’ outstanding surgical skills. He joined NVS several years ago as Surgical Resident. The hospital staff looks forward to many more years of working with him to help save the lives of critically ill and injured pets throughout Fairfield County and beyond.
Dr. Potanas earned his Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Sacred Heart University in 2003, and proceeded to earn his DVM (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine) degree from Kansas State University. He then completed a Small Animal Medicine and Surgery Internship at MSPCA-Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts. After Angell, Dr. Potanas went on to complete a Surgical Internship with Ohio Veterinary Surgery & Neurology at Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital in Akron, Ohio.
His specific interests include juvenile orthopedic disease, total hip replacement, portosystemic shunts, the surgical treatment of intervertebral disc disease, minimally invasive surgical techniques, and shock and polytrauma cases. Dr. Potanas enjoys lecturing and teaching other veterinarians, students, and technicians, and is actively involved in numerous research projects, as well as contributing to progressive surgical treatments and patient care.
