Police said one vehicle crossed the center line before striking a vehicle that had pulled onto the shoulder.

NEWTOWN, CT — A driver was arrested on a DUI charge following a two-car crash in Newtown late Sunday night, according to police.

Newtown police responded around 10:52 p.m. Aug. 17 to Pole Bridge Road near Bancroft Road for a two-car crash. Police said a Jeep Compass had been pulled onto the westbound shoulder because of a mechanical problem when an eastbound Honda Civic crossed the double-yellow center line and entered the westbound lane.

The Honda then collided with the Jeep, according to police. The Honda driver was unable to provide an account of how the crash occurred, and police determined the driver was at fault.
