Driver Pinned Down, Seriously Injured After Newtown Car Crash

NEWTOWN, CT — A driver was seriously injured and had to be extricated from their car Friday morning after crashing into a pole in Newtown, according to Botsford Fire Rescue.

The crash occurred on Swamp Road, where officials found the car heavily damaged and the driver pinned down by the door and dashboard, according to officials.

Rescuers first removed the passenger-side door, then lifted the dashboard before pulling the car off the pole and removing its roof, officials said.

In an extrication that took a half hour, the driver was then pulled from the car through the top, according to officials.

The driver was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
