Lane closures will run overnight as part of a months-long roadway reconstruction project, officials said.

NEWTOWN, CT — Nightly lane closures are underway on Interstate 84 in Newtown as part of a long-term roadway reconstruction project, according to state officials.

Closures began April 6 and are expected to continue through October 2027, the Connecticut Department of Transportation said.

Lane closures will take place overnight between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m., officials said.

The project includes extending the eastbound truck climbing lane, constructing a new Exit 9 on-ramp acceleration lane, as well as median and drainage improvements, according to CTDOT.

Officials said two lanes of traffic will remain open throughout the project, though travel lanes may be shifted as construction progresses.
