Drug Abuse Bills Backed by Newtown Congresswoman

Esty joins three other Democrats in introducing the laws.

Newtown’s congressional representative has joined other Democrats in introducing a bills dealing with drug abuse.

According to the Darien News Times, Rep. Elizabeth Esty, D-District 5, along with Rep. Bill Foster of Illinois, Rep. Donna Edwards of Maryland and Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney of New York, is backing the Opioid Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act and the Expanding Opportunities for Recovery Act.

The Times said the abuse prevention act would help doctors identify drug abuse in patients. The recovery act would all drug users who have limited or no health insurance to get 60 days of treatment.
