NEWTOWN HISTORICAL SOCIETY PRESENTS: DAN CRUSON ON HISTORICAL SOCIETY CAMPS OUT AT PUTNAM PARK
The Newtown Historical Society, in conjuction with Dan Cruson our town historian, will feature a program examining both sides of The American Revolution in Newtown on Monday, January 9, at 7:30 pm in the Booth Library.
Dan will examine many local facets of the Revolution, including many overlooked details of the Rochambeau march through and encampment in Newtown on his way to the decisive Battle of Yorktown. He will also discuss new details of the hanging of Robert Thompson, a notorious spy, and Sheldon's Dragoons presence in Newtown in 1782. The discussion will also cover the Putnam encampment in Redding and Bethel, and the sad case of the war bride, Betsey Foot.
Mr. Cruson has just published a book detailing the history of Putnam Park. You can purchase Dan's book at the meeting where he will be available to sign it.
Refreshments will be served after the presentation.
