Former Newtown Quarterback's Addiction Recovery Inspires Others: Report

A former Nighthawk quarterback is using his own struggles to spread positivity in the community and beyond.

NEWTOWN, CT — A former quarterback of the Newtown High School football team is using his struggles with substance abuse as inspiration to help others recover from their own addictions, reports FOX 61.

Matthew Deluca, a graduate of Newtown High School, has joined forces with his mother to lead the C.A.R.ES group along with his mother, an organization that focuses on educating and supporting those who suffer from addiction. Sparked by his own affliction, he also launched the "Everyone Knows Someone" campaign which gave people a place to talk openly about the disease.

DeLuca told Fox61 that his drug addiction lead him to cry himself to sleep regularly, and caused his weight to decrease to 135 pounds. Deluca's brother also suffered from drug addiction.
