Former Newtown Sergeant Steroid Ring Co-Conspirator Sentenced

Another member of a steroid-selling ring was sentenced by a federal judge.

Another member of the steroid-selling ring headed by former Newtown Sgt. Steven Santucci was sentenced Wednesday.

Michael Mase, 32, of Sherman was sentenced to three years of probation, the first three months of which he will spend in home confinement. He was also ordered to perform 120 hour of community service and pay a $2,000 fine.

Mase is a registered nurse and a competitive weight lifter. He purchased steroids from Santucci and distributed them to others, including people who competed in bodybuilding and weight lifting competitions.

Hundreds of vials of steroids, raw testosterone powder, cocaine, glassware and four long guns were seized as part of the conspiracy investigation, according to the U.S. Attorney District of Connecticut office.

Santucci pleaded guilty earlier this month.
