Gabby Giffords Brings Gun Message to Newtown
Gabby Giffords, co-founder of Americans for Responsible Solutions, will make a stop in Newtown on Saturday. BREAKING
NEWTOWN, CT — Gabby Giffords, the former U.S. Congresswoman who was shot in the head in Arizona in 2012, will bring her gun violence tour to 14 states, including a stop in Newtown, Conn., beginning on Saturday, according to WTNH News.
The 42-day “Vocal Majority National Bus Tour” will stop in Newtown and includes a roundtable discussion on gun violence with U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal, and Congresswoman Elizabeth Esty at Edmond Town Hall on Saturday at 11 a.m.
Giffords was severely wounded when she was shot in the head during a January 2011 mass shooting in Arizona. Needing years of physical and speech therapy to recuperate from the shooting, she stepped down from her congressional seat in January of 2012.

Giffords is the co-founder of Americans for Responsible Solutions, a 501(c)3, which was created after Giffords' disdain for inaction from Congress to do anything to prevent mass shootings.
"This inaction on gun violence was thrown into even starker contrast after the massacre of 20 children and six of their teachers at Sandy Hook Elementary School. On the second anniversary of the horrific Tucson shooting, as America mourned the dead in Newtown, Gabby and her husband, retired Navy Captain and astronaut Mark Kelly, launched Americans for Responsible Solutions to encourage elected officials to stand up for solutions to prevent gun violence and protect responsible gun ownership," their website states.
