Hamden Educator Named As New Newtown Superintendent: Report

Christopher Melillo ​will be taking the position being vacated by retiring Superintendent Lorrie Rodrigue at the end of the year

NEWTOWN, CT — The assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction at Hamden schools has been named superintendent of Newtown schools.

Christopher Melillo, 53, will be taking the position being vacated by retiring Superintendent Lorrie Rodrigue at the end of the year, according to a report published in the New Haven Register.

Melillo has been an educator in Hamden for 35 years. In Hamden, he taught for 12 years and has served as assistant superintendent for the last nine. His first day on Newtown's payroll will be July 1, but he will begin working with Rodrigue on the transition as soon as Thursday, according to the report.
