The team has been hosting fundraisers throughout town over the past week, with generous support from local businesses like Bagel Delight and The Hook. On Saturday, Dec. 6, during the annual Sandy Hook tree lighting celebration, they will have a table set up in front of the former Toy Tree space on Church Hill Road, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

All funds raised are being used to help pay for the 16 eighth grade girls’ trip to Nationals, which take place less than two weeks before the holiday.

“You really cannot put a price on an experience like this for these terrific young ladies,” said state Senator-Elect Tony Hwang. “Yet travel is expensive, and this comes at a time when families are gearing up for the holidays. The Newtown community has already shown such generous support for the team and their families, and I hope that continues Saturday when the fun, giving and kind spirit of the season is in full swing in Sandy Hook Village for the tree lighting celebration.”

“Newtown’s D-13 cheerleaders have already given the town much to be proud of, as they have placed first in locals, states and regionals,” Hwang said. “Now it’s time for the team to show the rest of the country how awesome they are.”
