Larceny, DUI, Atop Newtown Police Arrest Log Feb. 26 - Mar. 3

NEWTOWN, CT —Money stolen out of a wallet and a DUI were atop the Newtown Police Department's Arrest log this past week.

On Feb. 28, the Newtown Police Department received a report of a theft from the Newtown Youth Academy at 4 Primrose Street. The complainant told police they had left their wallet behind atop an exercise machine, and when it was returned, the money inside was missing. Video surveillance footage recorded in the gym showed an 18-year-old Hilldale Drive man take the wallet from the machine, go into the bathroom with the wallet in his possession, and then locate the owner moments later after removing money from it, according to police. The man was arrested and charged with sixth-degree larceny. He was later released after posted 7 percent of his bond and scheduled to appear at Danbury Superior Court on March 13.

At 8 a.m. on March 3, Newtown officers were dispatched to the area of 174 Mount Pleasant Road for a report of a motor vehicle striking a utility pole.

Following an investigation, police took a 58-year-old Tamarack Road man into custody, and charged him with DUI, failure to maintain his proper lane, and traveling too fast for conditions. He was later released after posted 7 percent of his $500 bond and scheduled to appear at Danbury Superior Court on March 12.
