Llodra: Time for 'A Quiet Period of Rest'

The First Selectman says the town won't host any events by outside organizers after mid-August.

From benefit concerts to visits from sports teams and charity games, Newtown has seen no shortage of events organized by outside groups in the past six months.

But it's time for Newtown to take a break, according to First Selectman Pat Llodra. After mid-August, the town will not participate in any major events offered by outside organizers, Llodra said in a blog post on the town website One Newtown Thursday.

"I believe that the time is coming for us to move into a quiet period of rest, recuperation, and healing," said Llodra.

"We are very appreciative of the efforts put forth by so many to make special activities available to our community members. We ask that organizations and individuals please accept our sincerest of thanks. We are hopeful that everyone understands the need for us to move into a quieter period."

Newtown's regularly scheduled Parks and Recreation events will continue as usual throughout the summer and fall, Llodra added.
