Man Accused Of Entering Vehicles In Sandy Hook Neighborhood: Police

NEWTOWN, CT — A man was arrested Tuesday evening after police said they received a report that someone was going in and out of vehicles in a Sandy Hook neighborhood.

Newtown police were called to the area of 3 Cherry Street around 6:21 p.m. after receiving a report of an older man with gray hair going in and out of vehicles and heading toward Riverside Road, according to a police report.

Officers canvassed the area and spotted a man matching the description walking on Glen Road, police said. Officers stopped him near 66 Glen Road.

The man was taken into custody and charged with two counts of sixth-degree larceny, one count of attempted sixth-degree larceny, possession of a controlled substance, interfering with or resisting an officer and disobeying the signal of an officer.

Police did not specify in the report what was taken from the vehicles or identify the controlled substance they said was found.

The man was being held in custody and was scheduled to appear Wednesday morning in Danbury Superior Court, according to police.
