Martin James Lawlor, Sr., of Bethel, Passed Away Sunday

Mr. Lawlor served in the Korean War and worked for the Bethel Public School system before retiring.

Martin James Lawlor, Sr., of Bethel, died peacefully Sunday morning, June 28, 2015. He was the beloved husband of Florence P. Lawlor for the past 63 years.

Martin was born in Danbury, CT on July 17, 1931, one of 14 children to the late Thomas Lawlor and Susan Leahy Lawlor of Danbury. One sister, Agnes Gibbs, of Florida, survives him.

He served his country during the Korean War and returned home where he was a machinist at Heli-Coil and eventually M and H Products which he ultimately purchased in the mid 1980’s. Upon leaving the machinist trade, Martin worked for the Bethel Public School system before retiring all together.

Martin was the devoted father to Martin Lawlor, Jr. and his wife Carol, of Bethel, Kathleen Bonsignore and her husband Kent, of Newtown and Gary Lawlor and his wife Anna, of Sandy Hook. He was the much-loved grandfather of Stephanie Nagy, Jeffrey Lawlor, Erin Lawlor, Kristopher Bonsignore, Michael Lawlor, James Lawlor and Patrick Lawlor.

Martin was a staunch Democrat who was always willing to make his opinion known. He believed that education was the ticket for a better life and never met a horse he did not like. He will be greatly missed.

In honoring Martin’s wishes, there will be no services or calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to Bethel Visiting Nurse Association, 70 Stony Hill Road, Bethel, CT 06801.
