MAY 13 EDITION OF "ASK THE ARBORIST

Today our "Ask the Arborist" looks at the Eastern Red Bud tree (Cericis canadesis L.)  You will find the bright pink color of this tree now through out greater Newtown, CT.  Eastern Red Bud is used as an ornamental in landscaping, but also occurs naturally in the forest.  Sometimes referred to as the Judas-tree Red Buds generally reach a maximum height of 20 ft.  Red Bud trees enjoy a USDA hardiness zone climate zone 4 - 9 making it another good choice for our 6 A Newtown, CT hardiness zone.  Plant in full sun or part shade, from personal experience I have noted part shade the most desirable planting site.
As always your local Forester / Licensed Arborist can assist you on proper planting or pruning.  Call Forester Jeff for YOUR FREE LOOK-UP FROM THE TRUNK-UP!
