Missing Newtown Man Spotted in New York

Robert Hoagland, a Newtown man missing for almost a year, was seen recently in New York.

A Newtown, CT man who vanished close to a year ago was spotted entering the Putnam County Correctional Facility in Carmel, NY on Thursday, the Journal News reported.

Robert Hoagland, 51, mysteriously disappeared from his home on July 28, 2013. He was seen a few hours earlier at a Newtown gas station filling up his Volkswagen Gulf vehicle and purchasing a road map of the United States, Newtown police said.

Hoagland’s son was the last one to see him the morning before he went missing. Hoagland reportedly left his car, wallet, driver’s license, passport, credit cards, cell phone and the shoes he was last seen wearing, according to police. His wife was out of town when he vanished and reported him missing when didn’t pick her up from the airport as planned.

According to Newtown police, there have been several unconfirmed sightings of Hoagland in Connecticut and Rhode Island. Family and friends have been relying on social media pages on Facebook and Twitter to help find him.

This past Thursday, someone visiting the Putnam County Correctional Facility reported seeing Hoagland walking into the jail, Newtown police said.
